Beautiful! I felt similarly in big old London. Initially I thought I had made it. Girl from the south German countryside made it to one of the world’s best universities in the UK. I had a good time and was miserable simultaneously.

Now we’re in a smaller city, closer back to nature. Moving to live back amidst the fields is a future possibility, sadly not for now.

I really love how you trusted that feeling inside you, Anne, to make the move!

Thank you so much, Carmen ❤️ Its so nice to know that we are not alone in this feeling. I agree with what you said about having a good time and feeling miserable at the same time. I’m glad I took the step and moved and tried new things - but I’m also glad to be back, closer to where I come from.

I love this. Such a nice way to slow down with my dinner - I’m going to keep reading your story. And it’s inspired me to write to my daughter too 💛 She’s 2.5 and I’ve always thought ‘I want her to know more about me than I ever knew about my mum and grandparents’. X

Thank you so much, Krissy ❤️ I’m really glad to hear that you liked it, please tell me what you thought of the other chapters as well, if you feel like it - I am looking for censtructive feedback! My daughter is now 2.5 years as well, and this whole story came about because I wanted her to know her families story as I think it is very important for a childs (and later adults) sense of self to know their familys story ❤️

I totally agree. We don't really ask questions about our parents' and grandparents' lives when we're young and then, it can be too late once we're adults! xx

Very engaging use of the second person narrative. Makes me wonder about the scent of those woods. Any flower? Or would that just be wet moss and mist in the morning?

Thank you, Stefano! Your question has inspired my to include more scent based observations, so expect some edits coming soon, as indeed the smell of both flowers and moss is quite prevalent out here in the woods 🌲
